In September 2014, elements of the conservation service of the Lobeke National Park organized a joint patrol in collaboration with military officers with the objective of arresting poachers in the park. This patrol led to the arrest of the accused persons ATANGANA Roger, ESSINDI NGUELE Joseph, ENYEGUE AKOA Hubert and ONANKOA ONANA Ignace for illegal capture and killing of African Grey Parrots. The accused admitted the charges and further confessed that they aimed to kill the parrots and remove their feathers and heads for commercialization. During interrogation, Atangana Roger further highlighted that they usually carry out this activity in complicity with some Ecogardes officers of the said park. It was based on this that their offence reports were drafted and together with the seized items as exhibits, they were forwarded before the state attorney of the court of First Instance Yokadouma for prosecution.
