Abstract

The accused persons KWESSI Franck ROBERTSON and AYOLO ATONG Parfait were summoned before the court of First Instance, Djoum by the State Attorney to respond to charges of illegal detention of firearms and ammunitions; and hunting without a permit. That in February 2016, KWESSI Franck ROBERTSON accompanied by NYANGA Marcel went for a hunting trip in the Efoulan forest. While in the forest they met AYOLO ATONG Parfait who was part of another group and they continued together. After a couple of days, KWESSI returned leaving the others in the bush and later on the news of the death of NYANGA Marcel was broadcasted. An investigation was opened for this purpose to which was discovered the remains of the deceased alongside the gun belonging to KWESSI. AYOLO ATONG was also apprehended for being part of this expedition. During interrogations, both accused persons recognized committing the offences as charged and pleaded guilty. KWESSI admitted to have gone to the forest with a certain NYANGA Marcel who killed a hare with the gun he had provided him with. Thereafter, he returned to town with this hare, leaving NYANGA Marcel with AYOLO to continue hunting. He also declared having no knowledge of the circumstances surrounding NYANGA Marcel's death. AYOLO further admitted to having made a hunting trip with other individuals in which he met KWESSI and NYANGA while in the forest and that they made their way together. Both accused persons admitted they went into the forest for hunting and carrying firearms of different calibres without authorization. At the end of interrogations, the matter was transmitted before the State Attorney for prosecution.
